Cedar, salmon and weed : a novel

Summary: The fishing village of Bamfield on Vancouver Island's pristine west coast is the unlikely meeting place of an uneasy mix of fishermen, the Nuu-chah-nulth whaling clan, hippies, drug peddlers and the scientists and students of the Bamfield Marine Station. Builder and marine biologist Gaz morphs into a beachcomber and small-time marijuana grower with his two friends, rich kid Blay and Ben, chief in waiting of the Dog Salmon People. Living the laidback life of 'lotus land', Gaz falls in love with Heidi, a student at the marine station. Things quickly begin to go wrong as Heidi's affections go elsewhere, greedy Blay brings big city interests into their pot business, and the local constable sets his sights on them.
